History of Hollween

The celebration of Halloween on 31 October each year goes back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain. It was the New Year Eve of ancient Celtic. People thought the barrier of human being and supernatural being would break down. They thougt all the supernatural beings would come out at that night. And they believed that it was the time that the soul of dead revisited their homes. And they thought that night the sprit world would be seen on earth.

During the night, people have bonefire and they wear masks in order to frighten the sprit away. The halloween brought comfort to the souls in purguary. They prayed for them as they held burning straw up high.

Hello Andy

Thanks for finding out about Halloween.

Don't you find it interesting how the ancient world was such a different place. People used to think and do very strange things.

Does China have a similar festival?
